Maybe I’m just watching different hockey games than most other people are right now because frankly, I’ve not got a clue why people are expecting an offensive barrage between the Flyers and Panthers in this one. A battle-hardened hockey fan would need but take one look at the guys standing behind the bench each night and know what’s being preached in the room day in and day out…DEFENSIVE RESPONSIBILITY.
That is just who Torts and Maurice are as guys —- they chew the fuck out of their gum, they scream, they give the odd great presser, but more than anything they get their teams playing a style of hockey that’s not exactly high-event. This is in many ways the opposite of how the Panthers played last year, and perhaps the market is just taking a while to adjust to a team whose not putting up the same type of offensive numbers anymore.
But beyond Florida’s apparent change in style, is the fact Carter Hart is a really damn good goalie. Before the wheels completely fell off for Philly last year he was spectacular, and that’s not changed to start this year. So it might just end up being a day I eat a lot of these words —- because man I love the fucking board, and it starts with limboing under this total.
